Why Colorful Mathematics?

Because children are born with a fascination for counting, ordering, comparing, and discovering patterns - yet we adults too often ask them to confine all of this to a notebook far too early. In preschool, mathematics is alive: children create patterns with blocks, build evenly balanced towers, count objects, and discover - delighting in mathematics through their own experience. This is a moment that should be nurtured, not extinguished, before it is replaced by routine, rigid schemes, and grades.

“Colorful Mathematics” is a free, nationwide program that helps children understand mathematics through hands-on activities using real objects. And it is then that mathematics begins to make sense and brings children genuine joy.

When and who the program is intended for

The first edition of the program runs from September 2025 until May 31, 2026.

The program may be implemented throughout the entire school year in the form of monthly or weekly sessions, adjusted to the needs and abilities of the participants.

It is recommended to complete a minimum of seven thematic chapters during the school year, including: From digit to number, addition and subtraction using concrete materials, and spatial relationships in mathematics.

The program is addressed to:

  • preschool children and students in grades 1–3 of primary school
  • preschool teachers and early primary education teachers

The program is carried out with entire preschool groups or school classes, with activities conducted under the supervision of a teacher.

Goal: joy of learning mathematics

The “Colorful Mathematics with KORBO” program was created for two age groups: preschool children and students in grades 1–3 of primary school.

Separate educational objectives have been designed for each of these groups, tailored to their developmental abilities and stage of education.

Regardless of the participants’ age, the program is based on the following pillars:

  • learning mathematics through hands-on activities
  • play and real-life experience

Benefits of participating in the program

The benefits of participating in the “Colorful Mathematics with KORBO” program are numerous and cover every aspect of the educational process.

The educational institution gains a modern innovation and builds an image of contemporary, forward-thinking education.

Teachers develop their professional skills, receive ready-made lesson plans, and conduct engaging classes using active learning methods.

Children learn mathematics in a natural way through movement, play, and hands-on activities, in a pressure-free environment. This is learning that engages, supports development, and delivers real results.

Why KORBO

Thanks to their design and repetitive elements, KORBO blocks allow children to learn mathematics through hands-on activity, observation, and experience.

This solution combines structure, movement, and tangible materials, delivering real results in understanding mathematical concepts.

In addition, all elements are safe and certified, and their size has been carefully selected to ensure comfortable use both at a school desk and on the floor in a preschool classroom. They are clearly visible, easy to organize, and practical in use.

Which sets work best in the “Colorful Mathematics” program?

In the “Colorful Mathematics with KORBO” project, choosing the right sets of blocks is key. They are selected so that the entire group can work together at the same time. We do not specify one universal number of blocks per child, as teamwork is more important here than individual tasks. In practice, however, we know which sets work best in different types of groups…

Program authors

The program was created by educators with experience in early childhood education and modern technologies. Sebastian Pontus and Anna Misztal develop lesson scenarios, handbooks, and materials for robotics and programming. On a daily basis, they train teachers and support schools in implementing EdTech solutions based on construction blocks. Their approach makes the activities easy to implement, engaging, and truly effective in developing students’ skills.
